The prime minister said the "UK is fully committed to the security of Cyprus and British military personnel based" on RAF Akrotiri.

"This is not Winston Churchill we're dealing with," the US president says, adding he's "not happy" with the UK's initial response to US-Israeli strikes.

The Ministry of Defence said the jets were supported by RAF Typhoons and a Voyager air-to-air refuelling aircraft.
